We are very hospitable nation, who seriously
treats his language as a reason of proud and likes when a foreigner
knows at least a few words in Polish. Our faith, Roman Catholicism
plays an important role in our lives, influencing on people's attitude
and behaviour. We are quite humoristic nation, loving to tell jokes
on everyone, even himself. But doesn't adore funny stories about Poles,
told by foreigners. Music and art are also important aspects of Polish
culture. Shaking hands is the normal form of greeting. Although, women
are often kissed on the hands. Also very often observed custom is
the triple kissing on cheeks, connected with delicate and elegant
hughs.
We wear rather popular, fashionable clothes
like in every modern country in Europe. But there are some exceptions:
when Pole go to a public institution, museum, theatre, cinema, opera,
city hall, gallery, etc. he wears smart elegant things, not dirty
jeans and shirt in every colour of the rainbow. Despite the fact
that suits are being seen warmly, smoking is rather restricted in
public places, it's better for parties and for those, who play classical
music on concerts.
Polish people are little used to eating
early in the morning. Breakfasts are served between 8 and 10 a.m.,
lunches between 13 and 3 p.m. and dinners usually between 6 and 9
p.m. What are we wearing during meals depends often on the kind of
restaurant, place where we are eating, our companions and types of
meeting (e.g. business, friendly meal). We work usually from 7 a.m.
to 3 p.m.
Our favourite places for social meetings
from early morning to late at night are cafés, bars, small restaurants,
discos and music clubs. To the most popular drinks, served there,
are tea, coffee, cold cola and beer. Often Polish people go to philharmonics,
theatres, operas and cinemas to improve their culture.
