Upper Silesia (Gorny Slask)
This unique land is situated in Silesian voivodship on the south of
the Poland. Three geographical regions with excellent scenery and
a lot of natural resources create province: Silesian Uplands, Beskidy
Mountains and the Cracow-Czestochowa Jurassic
formation. This is a home of many people with different nationalities,
who influenced strongly on today's image of the region. Slask still
is a territory on the crossroads of the expansions of various traditions
and cultures. Although presence of Germans, Czechs, Slovaks and Poles
from different lands, the original Silesian people's (
Slazacy)
culture is dominant.
The region is well suited for various forms of
rest and recreation, from winter sports, mountain tourism, forest
hiking to aeroplane flights; from fishing, swimming, even agro-tourism
and hunting to cave exploration.
Big opportunities for people's development, education,
tourist assets, original culture, industry, black coal mining, as
well as iron and steel works are the symbols of great Upper Silesia.
The Silesian voivodship is the most industrialised and urbanised
Polish region. There are as many as 68 towns (including 22 big towns,
with metropolitan features such as universities, institutes and
scientific centres). The number of inhabitants - almost 4.9 million
people - makes it the second most populated province in Poland,
which as far as the area is concerned means that the region has
the highest number of inhabitants per square kilometre - over 398
people. The capital of the province - Katowice.
is one of the most attractive places in Poland. It's
a region were we often spend weekends, relax and pick up very interesting
facts about it. It's beautiful regardless of the season and weather.
The history of upland reaches the age called Devon, when about 350 mln
years ago upland began its creation. The main part of it comes from
Jura, when this ground was covered by a warm sea. The vegetation is
also worth mentioning, because on this breathtaking landscape we can
meet very unique plants. In addition this place is for everybody. Happy
and sad, clever and stupid, tall and short. Isn't it wonderful?
